Energyville

Climate change is widely seen as the #1 threat to our planet. Most people agree we need to transition to cleaner energy, but the path forward isn’t simple. The science is complex, the politics are polarized, and many people feel powerless to understand — let alone solve — the challenge.

So instead of simply talking about the energy transition, we let people experience it. Chevron partnered with Sims creators Playstack and the journalists at Axios to create Energyville — a city-building game that puts players in charge of managing a modern power grid. Will you invest in solar or wind? How will you balance clean energy with affordability and citizen happiness? Can you grow your city while reducing emissions?

Advisors help guide your decisions as you determine where and how to build new energy sources. You’ll hear from concerned citizens along the way — and face choices about whether to address their concerns or stay focused on larger goals. Players can invest in emerging technologies, unlock more efficient energy sources, pass policies into law, and wrestle with real-world tradeoffs like energy buy-back programs, electric vehicle mandates, or forcing businesses to adopt renewables at the risk of losing them to competing cities.

Through intuitive, engaging gameplay, Energyville helps players explore the real-world complexities of the energy transition — and shows that building a cleaner future won’t come from one solution, but many working together.
